Neosporin Eye Ointment is an antibiotic preparation that contains Neomycin, Bacitracin and Polymyxin to treat bacterial ocular infections. Neosporin Eye Ointment is intended to be applied directly in the eye. The medicine works by preventing or stopping the growth of bacteria in the eyeball. This preparation won't work for other types of ocular infections caused by fungi or viruses. This is a sterile antibacterial ointment that is projected for ocular use only. This ophthalmic preparation is used for the treatment of ocular infections such as Keratitis, Conjunctivitis, Blepharitis or Kerato conjunctivitis.

How Neosporin Eye Ointment works?

Neosporin Eye Ointment exerts bactericidal activity and works by killing the bacteria. This active compound falls under the class of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. This medication exerts its activity by blocking the protein synthesis through binding of the 30s ribosomal subunit. The main reason for bacterial multiplication is protein synthesis and this results in an increased concentration of bacteria.

How to apply Neosporin Eye Ointment?

The recommend dose of Neosporin Eye Ointment is 3 to 4 times for a minimum of 7 to 10 days. To apply Neosporin Eye Ointment, the first and foremost step is to wash your hands. Be careful not to touch the tip of tube with your hands or any surface in order to avoid contamination. Incline your head back, look in upward direction and pull down your lower eyelid to form a pocket. Place a 1.5 centimeters strip of Neosporin ointment into the pocket by squeezing the tube softly. Close your eyes gently and roll the eyeball in all directions to spread the ointment. Don't blink and rub the eye. Clean the tip of the ointment tube with a clean tissue to eliminate additional drug before recapping it.

In Case of Missed Dose: If you forget to apply Neosporin ointment, you can use it the moment you remember. If it is near the time of the subsequent dose, you can skip the forgotten dose and restart your normal dosing timetable. Remember not to double the dose to catch up for the missed one.

Over Dosage: Overdose of Neosporin ointment may reduce the efficiency of medicine and can also result in certain serious side effects.
