Sinemet Tablets are an oral and effective medication, which successfully manage symptoms of Parkinson's disease like muscle spasm, tremors and stiffness. It is a combination medication, which rapidly alters the level of dopamine in the brain and treats this disorder.

What is the Mechanism of Action of Sinemet?

Sinemet Tablets is prepared by using two active components. One is Carbidopa and another is Levodopa. Carbidopa provides protection to Levodopa or it prevents metabolism of Levodopa. Carbidopa generally prevents breakdown of Levodopa before reaching to the brain. Levodopa crosses brain barrier and breaks into dopamine. It also stimulates dopaminergic receptors and treats symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Who Should Not Consume Sinemet Tablets?

Sinemet Tablets (Carbidopa & Levodopa) is contraindicated in some individuals, so they should not take this medication. They are-

  • The individuals, who are suffering from narrow angle glaucoma, should not take this medication.

These medications include Amantadine, Clonazepam, Metformin, Aspirin and MAOIs like Isocarboxazid, Rasagiline, Linezolid, Phenelzine, Methylene blue injection or Selegiline.

You can store Sinemet Tablets (Carbidopa & Levodopa) at room temperature; away from direct moisture, sunlight and heat.

How You Can Take Sinemet Tablets?

Sinemet Tablets (Carbidopa & Levodopa) is available in the oral dosage form. The individual should take this medication with food. This medication is available in two types of ratio, one is 1:4 and another is 1:10 of Carbidopa to Levodopa.

  • In case of 1:4 ratios, the individual should take one tablet of this medication orally usually three times a day. The dose can be increased depending upon the safety and efficacy of the drug.
  • In case of 1:10 ratio, the individual should take one tablets of this drug orally three to four times in a day. In this case also gradual increased can be done in dose based on safety and efficiency of this drug.

What to do in case of overdose?

You should avoid overdose consumption of Sinemet Tablets (Carbidopa & Levodopa), as it can cause severe harmful effects in this case. In case of overdose immediately contact with your doctor.

What happens if you missed a dose of this medication?

In case of missing of dose, you should leave it and go for next dose, if you remember it at the time of next dose.
